USA Swimming has announced its 2025-26 National Team, featuring 121 athletes—15 more than last year’s roster. The expanded lineup reflects performances recorded between September 1, 2024, and August 31, 2025. With a mix of returning legends and 50 first-time selections, the roster underscores the depth of American swimming talent.
Ledecky Leads the Way
Katie Ledecky headlines the team with her record-breaking 14th National Team selection, the most among any active swimmer. On the men’s side, Caeleb Dressel and Michael Andrew each secured their 10th selections, cementing their place among the most consistent and accomplished swimmers in U.S. history.
Rising Stars and Newcomers
This year’s roster introduces 50 athletes making their first National Team appearance. Notable newcomers include Patrick Sammon, who captured gold in the mixed free relay at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships, and Leah Shackley, who emerged as a breakout star at the World University Games. Versatility Across Events
Shaine Casas and Regan Smith highlight the breadth of U.S. talent with qualifications in multiple events. Casas earned spots in six men’s events, while Smith led the women with seven qualifications. For Smith, this marks the second consecutive year as the most versatile female swimmer on the roster, reinforcing her dominance.
National and Collegiate Representation
Athletes represent 33 states and 25 universities. California produced the highest number of team members with 14 swimmers. At the collegiate level, the University of Virginia leads the way with 14 athletes, continuing its reputation as one of the country’s premier swimming powerhouses.
Institutional and Financial Support
National Team members gain access to critical support systems. Benefits include direct stipends based on performance, elite health insurance, travel and recovery funding, and athlete-centered career resources through the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee’s ACE Program. These measures ensure that swimmers can prioritize training and international competition.
Preparing for Pan Pacifics and Beyond
Greg Meehan, USA Swimming’s National Team Managing Director, emphasized the team’s momentum. “We witnessed strong performances across national and international events this past summer, reinforcing that our team is set up well for the Pan Pacific Championships and future competitions as we look towards LA28,” he said in a press release.
Women’s Roster Highlights
Alongside Ledecky, standouts include Simone Manuel, Torri Huske, Claire Curzan, and Kate Douglass, each excelling across sprint and medley events. Regan Smith, with seven qualified races, remains the most versatile swimmer, while young stars like Erin Gemmell and Claire Weinstein add depth to an already formidable women’s team.
Men’s Roster Highlights
The men’s squad blends established champions with emerging talent. Veterans like Caeleb Dressel, Bobby Finke, and Carson Foster are joined by rising names including Thomas Heilman, Rex Maurer, and Patrick Sammon. Shaine Casas continues to display unmatched versatility, qualifying across backstroke, butterfly, freestyle, and individual medley events.
